Weekly Soundtrack: The Drums

By Filip Terlecki

The Drums are an American band from Brooklyn, New York.

Founding members Jonathan Pierce and Jacob Graham met at summer camp when they were kids and have been best friends ever since. They were both involved in various other bands before coming together to form The Drums in 2008.

Their music captures the beach pop sounds of the 1950’s and combines them with the melody and winsome lyrics of the 1980’s British post-punk genre.

“Let’s Go Surfing” (directed by David Fishel) was their debut single.

“Best Friend” was the first co-written song by Pierce and Graham. It was released on the band’s first full album (self titled The Drums) in 2010.

The album was apparently recorded in Jacob Graham’s home in Florida, as well as the band’s apartment in New York City and in a shack in Woodstock.
