Weekly SNDtrack: Trust

By Anna Piszczkiewicz

We have a soft spot for 80s-inspired synthesizers, drum machines and haunting vocal melodies. And Robert Alfons and Maya Postepski (also the beat maker for Austra) of Trust play to our penchant for gloomy electronica.

The Toronto-based darkwave duo has been writing songs together since 2009. Fans got their first taste with gothic electro-ballad “Candy Walls.’”  Hint: the video features the musical partners in what feels like a cinematic rendition of your fave high school bad boy on a date that you wanted to be with him on. (No rolling of the eyes, please. Like you can’t relate).

Their debut album TRST was released earlier this year on the Arts & Crafts label.

If you also have a fondness for Depeche Mode, Joy Division, New Order and their off-kilter friends, this is for you.
