Weekly SNDtrack: Lana Del Rey

We called it way back with South Korean pop sensation PSY and we’re calling it again with Lana Del Rey. This girl will be a star. And not just a one hit wonder but, judging from her lyrics and smoky voice, a certified Amy Winehouse supernova.

He music and look channel a sort of ’50/’60 Americana. She is both Marilyn Monroe and Janis Joplin at the same time (with a bit of a young Julia Roberts demeanour.)

Make no mistake, this girl can sing. And her story driven elaborate music videos evoke a certain enigmatic curiosity about her. We want to see more, to hear more and to know more about Lana Del Rey.

Check out this video for “Ride” – directed by Anthony Mandler it includes a monologue at the beginning and end of the video. It’s an essential part of the story so make sure not to skip ahead. Enjoy.

“I am fucking crazy. But I am free” – words to live by.

Here’s another audio/visual gem. This one just as alluring as the first.

“Blue Jeans”
