Weekly SNDtrack: Happy

Happy Monday Kids!

It’s a new week and a promise of a warmer, sunnier weather. To lift your winter-blue spirits here’s a tune from the musical hit maker of the moment.

In 2013 Pharrell Williams delivered infectious songs that elevated him to mainstream consciousness.“Blurred Lines” with Robin Thicke and “Get Lucky” with Daft Punk were as invigorating as freshly squeezed orange juice. But a third collaboration might have been the best one yet. Pharrell created original songs and themes for the animated film Despicable Me 2 among them was the melodic wonder “Happy”.

And in a stroke of marketing genius, Pharrell and the team behind the movie’s digital release created the world’s first 24-hour music video / interactive experience (dubbed 24 hours of happy) to hype it up.

The video features a diverse cast of friends, collaborators, artists, celebs and regular folk dancing to the track on the streets of L.A as the song plays over and over again for 24 hours.

The people behind the idea were Paris-based directing team ‘We Are From LA‘ consisting of Clement Durou and Pierre Dupaquier who partnered up with production company Iconoclast to pull it off.

If you wanna know how they did it, check out this great article by Mary Kaye Schilling in Fast Company.

Otherwise enjoy Happy…
