Weekly SNDtrack: Gust of Wind

By FT

In this day and age a hot single triumphs a solid album any day of the week.

How many people actually still purchase the entire record? Probably not as many as buy that one catchy hit single from iTunes.

I think this has made mainstream musicians a bit lazy. Why bother slaving over 15 songs when you can put all your punch into two of three and make kazzilions?

You would think that perhaps hit maker of the moment Mr. Happy (aka Pharrell Williams) would subscribe to this ideology. After all, in the past year he’s had his fingers all over the three most infectious songs around: “Blurred Lines”, “Get Lucky” and “Happy”.

Not only have these earned him accolades, fame and fortunate but they also (as in the case with “Happy” which was created for the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack) nearly won him an Academy Award.

But if you think that, you’d be wrong.

Pharrell’s new album GIRL is a musical feast from top to bottom. Ten tracks of pure musical delight featuring guest appearances by Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Daft Punk, Alicia Keys, Kelly Osbourne and Timbaland among others.

We nominate this album as the soundtrack of the summer. But in the meantime enjoy this collaboration between Pharrell and Daft Punk in “Gust of Wind” as this week’s soundtrack.
