Weekly SNDtrack: Cults

Are you into cults?

And not just any cults – the Cults.

Cults is the Manhattan duo of Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin who gained notoriety in 2011 on the strength of music they posted to their bandcamp page.

We stumbled on this track last week. It’s not new. But as we all known, new and shiny isn’t always the best. What counts is the music. And these guys sound really cool.

Here’s “Go Outside” by the Cults as recorded on the roof top of SPIN Magazines New York HQ.

When you really love a song you become a little obsessive compulsive about it – listening to it over and over again. Hence, here’s the same track in a video originally premiered on the Boing Boing website.

Directed by Isaiah Seret this video for “Go Outside” takes the Cult duo and puts them inside the world of Jim Jones’ infamous religious cult, Peoples Temple in the Jonestown community. The visual f/x are reminiscent of what they did with Tom Hanks in Forest Gump.

“For this music video we didn’t want to put a spin on the footage or the people’s lives—instead we wanted to re-tell and humanize their story,” said the director.

The video is pretty cool. Check it out.
