Finding hand-crafted, Canadian-made, modern furniture can be a daunting task. Most conventional furniture stores carry pieces made oversee that don’t cost them (the seller) or us (the buyer) an outrageous amount of money, but often times this means that the quality of the pieces is questionable and likelihood of us owning an original, one-of-a-kind piece, slim to none.
Recently, I came across beautiful rocking chairs and gliders, designed and hand-made in Canada. I actually purchased one of these (the Luca glider) and have been raving about it since.
Monte Design Group is passionate about great design and their furniture strives to be pure and uncluttered, yet warm and welcoming. Sure, often times it’s purchased by new-parents-to-be to be placed in a nursery, but these pieces, featuring clean lines, superior quality, and exceptional comfort are appropriate for any room in the home.
Founded by designers Ralph and Michelle Montemurro, the functional and design-driven products are unlike anything I’ve seen recently, and trust me, I’ve looked far and wide.
Check out their website and keep them in mind if/when you’re looking for a Canadian made piece for your home. It doesn’t hurt that when you go to the showroom in Toronto you get helped by designer Ralph himself.
