Retro RWD: Madonna

By FT

I saw Madonna in concert a few years ago and she was awesome.

Always the perfectionist (and apparently a control freak) Madonna’s performances today are, arguably, more elaborate, refined and artistically creative then ever before. One need only look at her Super Bowl performance of a few years ago (see here) to know what I mean.

Madonna’s breakout album was her 1983 self-titled debut album but the one that elevated her to galactic superstardom was True Blue. Released in 1986 it featured singles like “La Isla Bonita“, “Live to Tell” and “Open Your Heart“.

Many considered it Madonna’s most girlish album because it deals with themes of love and relationships as well as dreams and disappointments. True Blue was dedicated to her then hubby Sean Penn.

Here actor Danny Aiello (of Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing fame) plays Madonna’s father in “Papa Don’t Preach”. Enjoy.
