Putting the P Back in Parkdale

One of the most exciting up and coming neighbourhoods in Toronto is Parkdale.

Despite its unrefined edge, or maybe because of it, residents of Parkdale love their neighbourhood.  And with good reason.

Parkdale has a great combination of old and new; mom and pop shops mixed with speciality stores opened up by passionate young entrepreneurs (check out our previous interviews with the folks behind Crown Flora Studio and Sylvie and Shimmy) and one of the best coffee spots in the city – The Mascot.

Entrepreneurs Caroline Sylvester and Kyungjoo Shim of Sylvie and Shimmy.

A few months ago we were approached by the Parkdale Village BIA to tell the story of their effort to beautify six community gardens.

Supported by TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and Tree Canada, it was a project aimed at baby stepping the neighbourhood back to its lush resort town heritage.

To rejuvenate the gardens, Parkdale Village BIA, brought on board Parkdale Green Thumb Enterprises, an interior/exterior landscape and gardening business that provides employment opportunities for people with mental health issues.
