Paula & Karol

By Anna Piszczkiewicz

Warsaw-based indie folk duo ‘Paula & Karol’ captured the hearts of fans, media and critics alike with the release of their first studio album Overshare in December 2010. We’ve written about their happy folk pop songs before.

The Guardian listed bandmates, a Canadian girl (North Bay, represent!) and Polish guy (hello, Warsaw!), in a feature entitled ‘Sound of 2011 Around the World’, stating “they are Poland’s new superheroes. Not the tight pants, fluttering cape kind. More like, come to our concert – we’ll break your heart, and then we’ll fix it up kind.” We couldn’t agree more.

But ‘Paula & Karol’ are more than a duo. The family of musicians hit the road earlier this year, travelling and playing festivals in Iceland, Germany, Holland, France, and the UK, among others.

In early 2012, they will return to the studio to record their second album and are scheduled to play the annual South by Southwest music showcase in Austin, Texas and Canadian Music Week in Toronto. But until ‘Paula & Karol’ bring modern Polish alternative music across the Atlantic, enjoy their just released first music video.
