Kusama, known as the Princess of Polka Dots, came to prominence in the 1960’s in New York City after organizing a series of Body Festivals in which naked participants were covered with vibrant polka dots.
She has influenced the likes of Andy Warhol and Yoko Ono and is acknowledged as one of the most important living artists to come out of Japan.
Particularly interesting is the fact that she has been living in a mental institution since 1977.
