Zombies are all the rage nowadays. For whatever reason we love seeing resurrected crazy corpses running around and attacking people. (We’re not shrinks here so we’ll leave the interpretations of that to the professionals.)
But it’s been a while since a great zombie movie came out. The last truly memorable one was Director Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later. Although that technically wasn’t a zombie picture; the crazies in it were people infected with a “rage” virus and not revived corpses.
However, on the horizon is a movie that looks so ferocious and so epic that it could potentially be a huge zombie film game changer.
World War Z is based on the novel of the same name by Max Brooks (son of comedian Mel Brooks – go figure.) And it stars Brad Pitt as a United Nations worker on a mission to stop a zombie outbreak that is toppling nations.
Produced by Pitt’s company Plan B Entertainment the movie could potentially bring the whole zombie genre into the mainstream. Typically, zombie films have always been sort of low budget affairs starring B talent, so the inclusion of someone of Pitt’s stature could potentially elevate this subject matter to the next level.
The trailer looks spectacular. In fact, it’s so good that it begs the question: could this be the best zombie flick ever made?
The film comes out on June 21st.[like] [tweets]
